You are in for a real treat at Montreal’s major AI conference happening on May 4 & 5. Our inventor, co-founder and CTO, Patrick St-Amant, will provide more than just a technical depiction and case studies on how to produce robust AI for critical operations. His talk will also mark the launch of Zetane’s new service, Zetane Protector, for producing robust machine learning solutions, focusing on industrial applications of computer vision (get early access to Protector by signing up for our Beta trials today). His talk entitled, Computer vision built for the real world: case studies on automated, in-depth model testing and data augmentation, will start at 12:05pm.

Summary of Patrick’s talk

Computer vision (CV) solutions that have exceptional performance under controlled conditions are often prone to failure when operating in real-world environments. Known as a deficiency of “robustness”, common environmental and operating conditions like fog, blur due to mechanical vibration and changes in lighting can cause CV to fail or underperform. Here we present case studies on how to produce more robust CV based on our efforts with clients in industries ranging from security to civic infrastructure. Our solution is a new, online data SaaS platform that provides detailed analytics of operating risks and weaknesses in datasets used to train CV models, which in turn provides definitive guidance on how to improve data and models for CV applied in industrial settings.

Patrick is but one leading AI mover-and-shaker presenting at the conference. See the full line-up of speakers here and be sure not to miss this event. Also take note that our CEO of Zetane, Guillaume Hervé, will also participate in a panel discussion, which we will announce soon — so stay tuned.

More about Patrick

Patrick St-Amant is the CTO and co-founder of Zetane who patented the company’s technology underlying its software products for visual, intuitive displays of AI.

Previously, he was a mathematics professor at Collège International Saint-Anne and an independent researcher in numbers theory, set theory and fundamentals of mathematics. He also founded and managed the innovation Makerspace at College Saint-Anne where he guided and mentored over 100 student projects in mathematics. He received the Virtual and Augmented Reality Grant from Entente Canada-Quebec in 2016 to support the development of virtual and augmented reality applications for learning languages.

Patrick advanced research in mathematics, categories theories and foundation of computing groups at the University of Ottawa (2007). He was an invited scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (2006 & 2007) where he studied neural sciences. He holds an M.Sc. in computer science and fundamental mathematics from UQAM (2007) and a Bachelor of Mathematics and Physics from UQAM (2004).
