We are a week away from the World Summit AI of the Americas happening in Montreal on May 4 & 5. Adding to the list of AI leaders speaking at the event is a group of experts in Canada’s electricity infrastructure that will discuss AI systems to optimize power networks. Happening on May 4th at 1:35 pm, the CEO of Zetane, Guillaume Hervé, will participate. Central to the discussion will be Zetane’s partnership with BluWave-AI, which helped advance the adoption of machine learning algorithms as a means to optimize the sourcing of renewable energy (CBC reported on the project, and you can see a video summary here). The CEO of BluWave-AI, Devanshish Paul, will moderate the discussion panel that will focus on issues related to the transitioning of our transportation sector to renewable energy sources.

Here is a summary of the future discussion and biography for all the participants.

(Also be sure to check out the presentation by Zetane’s CTO, Patrick St-Amant, at the Summit.)

Managing energy for electric vehicles in the electricity grid with AI systems

Our panel dives into a key energy transition trend for 2022: the large proliferation of passenger electric vehicles (EVs) and electrified transport fleets and how this phenomenon is affecting the operations of electricity grids, as these grids become the new “fueling stations.” Managing residential EV chargers and supplying fleet operators in the grid is complex from the utility side given grid capacity constraints. These operations require graceful charging management to avoid overloading the grid infrastructure. Transit and freight fleet operators are also trying to maximize EV miles serviced by offsetting diesel miles driven with their fleets to reduce emissions and operating costs. This requires fleet orchestration to manage these mixed fleets. Fleet orchestration coordinates disparate systems around fleet management including chargers, vehicles, depot energy management, solar generation, battery storage, real-time energy pricing, and weather. The panelists come from different parts of the ecosystem that are enabling both EV adoption, electricity network challenges and AI solutions

Panellists

  • Patrick Lo — Senior Manager, Partnerships; Independent Electricity System Operator
